Pitch is converted to loop spacing. The usable binding edge is divided into whole intervals, then the remaining space is centered at both ends.
spacing = 25.4 ÷ pitch; loops = floor(usable edge ÷ spacing) + 1The James Burn table recommends a 5/16 inch (7.9 mm) 3:1 element for a book block up to 6.2 mm. Confirm with a finished sample and your machine.
The referenced chart uses 3:1 through 9/16 inch and 2:1 from 5/8 inch upward. Your punch and closer must support that pitch.
