How it works

What the cleaner removes

Embedded metadata

Canvas re-encoding does not copy EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, PNG text chunks or JPEG comments into the output.

Visible pixels

The image content and dimensions are retained. JPEG transparency is filled with the selected background color.

Important limits

Visible text, faces or locations in the pixels are not removed. Color profiles can change during browser re-encoding.

Image metadata removal FAQ

Does this remove GPS location data?

The clean copy is drawn into a new canvas and does not carry embedded EXIF GPS blocks into the output.

Does it remove visible information?

No. Text, faces, license plates and locations visible in the image pixels remain visible.

Why can file size or color change?

The browser re-encodes the image. Compression settings and color-profile conversion can affect size and appearance.

Is the original file modified?

No. The tool creates a separate clean download and never writes to the source file.

Handy Tool Lab

How this tool is maintained

Handy Tool Lab builds and tests each tool around repeatable examples. Formula-based tools use published references when a suitable source exists; browser utilities are checked with representative inputs and output cases.
