Hardscape material estimator
Paver Base Calculator
Estimate aggregate base volume, bags, approximate bulk weight and material cost before installing pavers.

Measure the base area
Enter dimensions to estimate material.

Material coverage check
The drawing is a planning aid and is not a site survey. Measure irregular edges separately and confirm the finished depth with the supplier or installer.

Results are planning estimates. Product coverage, settlement, moisture, site preparation and supplier rounding can change the quantity purchased.
Reference values
Paver base depth and coverage assumptions
Application matters
Base depth depends on traffic, soil, drainage and the paver system. A patio or walkway may need a different section than a driveway.
Compaction
The estimate uses finished compacted depth. Excavated and loose material quantities can differ from the final compacted volume.
Ordering allowance
Add an allowance for grading, edge conditions and supplier rounding. Confirm the section with the installer or product guide.
Paver base calculator FAQ
How much paver base do I need?
Multiply the base area by the compacted base depth, convert to cubic yards and add the selected allowance. Use separate measurements for different sections.
How deep should a paver base be?
Depth depends on the application and soil conditions. Published guides commonly show different sections for patios, walkways and driveways, so confirm the design before digging.
Should I calculate the pavers and base separately?
Yes. The pavers, bedding layer and aggregate base are separate materials with different thicknesses and coverage.
How many bags of paver base do I need?
Divide the ordered volume by the bag volume and round up. Check the package coverage because bag sizes and product density vary.
Does this include excavation or bedding sand?
No. This estimates aggregate base only. Excavation, geotextile, bedding material, edge restraint, pavers, delivery and labor are separate.
