Before punching the banner

These presets are planning ranges, not wind-load engineering. Material weight, reinforced hems and mounting conditions change the required spacing.

  1. Confirm spacing and edge inset with the banner fabricator or material instructions.
  2. Keep text, logos and cut lines clear of hems, grommets and reinforcement patches.
  3. Print or copy the coordinates and verify opposite-edge alignment before punching.

How the grommet layout is calculated

Count from a maximum gap

The usable edge span is divided by the maximum spacing and rounded up to whole intervals. One endpoint is then added.

Shared corner grommets

Adjacent edges use the same inset corner coordinate, so the total purchase count counts that physical grommet once.

Matching opposite edges

Top and bottom use the same horizontal positions; left and right use the same vertical positions for aligned tie-down points.

How far apart should banner grommets be?

A common planning range is 24-36 inches for many vinyl banners, with tighter spacing often used for mesh or wind exposure. Follow the fabricator and mounting specification.

Are corner grommets counted twice?

No. When two selected edges meet, this calculator merges their identical corner coordinate and counts one physical grommet.

Why is the calculated spacing smaller than my maximum?

The maximum is a limit. The usable edge is divided into a whole number of equal intervals that do not exceed it.

Does this calculator determine wind safety?

No. Wind load depends on banner area, porosity, reinforcement, fasteners and support structure. Obtain an engineered mounting plan when failure could cause injury or damage.
