Fence, wall and deck calculators

Fence, Retaining Wall & Deck Material Calculators

Choose a focused material takeoff for a fence line, segmental retaining wall or simple deck. Review the assumptions before ordering because layout and structural conditions change the result.

Outdoor Project Calculators

Count-based projects need more than area

Fences, walls and decks combine lengths, spacing, stock sizes, openings and site conditions. These calculators turn known layout assumptions into a shopping estimate, but they do not replace a permitted plan or structural review.

Before ordering posts, blocks or boards

  1. 1
    Map the layout

Record each straight run, corner, opening, gate, wall section or deck dimension separately. Shared corners and boundaries can change counts.

  2. 2
    Use the actual product dimensions

Replace sample board width, block face size, panel width, stock length, bag yield and prices with the products you can buy.

  3. 3
    Separate estimating from design

Post spacing, footing depth, drainage, reinforcement, joist spacing, loads and connections may require local code or professional guidance.

  4. 4
    Confirm the supplier list

Round pieces and bags up, check delivery minimums and compare the output with the approved plan and manufacturer instructions.

Fence, wall and deck calculator FAQ

Does a fence calculator include gates and corners?

The Fence Calculator can remove gate openings and handle connected runs, but you must choose the layout mode and confirm corner posts, end posts and local spacing.

Does the retaining wall calculator design reinforcement?

No. Wall height, soil, slope, surcharge, water and the selected block system determine buried courses, drainage and reinforcement.

Can the deck calculator size joists or beams?

No. It estimates stock quantities from the dimensions and spacing you enter. Use the approved design and manufacturer instructions for member size and connections.

Why can the shopping list differ from the calculation?

Product dimensions, cuts, shared boundaries, waste, stock lengths, delivery rounding and site conditions can all change the final order.
